Could the old Gits do it?
On a glorious sunny afternoon the Old Marlburian golfers took on the might of the Marlborough College golfers. The OMs knew this would be a tough fixture – a team of young, fit and athletic Marlburians were not to be taken lightly. The OM match manager was up to the challenge though, having sent an email to the OM team advising that a pre match team talk and limbering up session would be required. The Wellington Arms was the chosen venue – only to find it was closed for refurbishment. Without the aid of a WhatsApp group or follow up email however the team all managed to migrate to The Marlborough.
Assembling at the golf club introductions were made, pairings arranged and the matches got underway. They were close, they were competitive and they were played in great spirit. The OMs won 31/2 – 11/2. The Old Gits had done it! The college team were a credit to the school, they were fun to play with, they were charming and they were graceful in defeat. We hope to welcome this year’s leavers to OMGs matches and events in the years ahead and see the younger players at next year’s match. They will no doubt be looking for revenge.
Thank you to Joe Lane for arranging the college team and to the team for making it a fun fixture.
