OM Tessa Murray (BH 1987-89) Honoured as Rising Paratriathlete Receives Inspiration Award

An Old Marlburian and a current pupil shared the spotlight at a prestigious Schools Triathlon awards ceremony in London on 16 September 2026, as both were recognised for their exceptional contributions to sport and charity.

Tessa Murray (BH 1987-89), co-founder of the international youth charity Restless Development, presented the Schools Triathlon Inspiration Award to current pupil Hattie W in recognition of her remarkable sporting achievements and determination.

Hattie, who has cerebral palsy, first took part in a Schools Triathlon at the age of seven. Since then, her passion and commitment have seen her progress rapidly through the sport, earning registration with the England Paratriathlon Team. She is now working towards elite-level competition, with her first international race scheduled for October 2026.

The award celebrates individuals who have overcome challenges and demonstrated extraordinary resilience, making Hattie a fitting recipient. Her journey from a young participant in the Schools Triathlon to an aspiring international athlete has inspired fellow pupils, staff and supporters alike.

The ceremony proved to be a double celebration, as Tessa Murray was herself honoured with a Schools Triathlon Legends Award. The accolade recognised her commitment to the event over the past decade and her role in helping it become one of the UK’s most successful youth fundraising initiatives.

Together with fellow former Restless Development volunteer Jim Sewell, Tessa founded the Schools Triathlon series in 2016. Over the past ten years, the programme has grown into a nationwide success story, raising more than £8 million for charity and encouraging over 55,000 young people to take on the challenge of swimming, cycling and running their way across the finish line.

Reflecting the spirit of determination, inclusion and community that underpins the Schools Triathlon, the awards highlighted both the achievements of a rising sporting star and the lasting impact of a dedicated founder.

As Hattie prepares for her international debut and continues her journey towards elite competition, the school community will be cheering her on and looks forward to following her future achievements as an Old Marlburian.
