Roger M Paul (PR 1950-55) returned to Marlborough College after 70 years of leaving the school, a total surprise organised by his son. It was a quiet half term and he was able to take a wonderful trip down memory lane. When he saw the Chapel, he was able to reminise about the time he stood up in front of everyone at the lecturn to give a reading. He was delighted to see the Mem Hall in all it’s ‘updated’ glory as well as The Mound and the Rose Garden. He revisited Preshute House were he boarded as a young boy and we were all delighted to see his name written on the Honours Boards in the Common Room as an enthusiastic hockey player and Captain through 1953, 54 and 55!! He remembered the corridors and passages plus rooms where two would study – now a single bedroom – long gone are the dormitories he remembers. As a keen cricket player, his final stop was the Cricket Pavillion where many wonderful memories came flooding back, one of his parents watching his matches from the bench, taking shade under the tree. It was a beautiful day and a glorious trip down memory lane. Next September, he celebrates his 90th birthday – congratulations from all in the Marlburian Club.
