Miles William Henchman Bolus (B1 1945-49) passed away peacefully on 28 January 2025, surrounded by family and friends.

After leaving Marlborough, Miles joined the Army. He then spent two years in Spain, followed by five years in Africa and nine years in the United Kingdom, before returning to Spain in 1971.

For the last seven years of his life, Miles lived in his own apartment at my home in Jimena, Cádiz Province, with the support of a live-in carer. It was an arrangement that suited us both far better than a move to a care home and allowed him to maintain his independence and quality of life.

Miles knew how to enjoy life. He was well liked by all who knew him and is greatly missed by his sons, Philip and Dominic, and by his grandchildren, Saskia, Katya, Tiggy and Hopi.

At the age of 93½, and with his characteristic sense of humour, Miles remarked that he was “not feeling too fresh.” He was ready to go.

He leaves behind many happy memories and will be remembered with affection by all who knew him.
