Since 2003, Timothy Wells (PR 1961-65) visits Kenya each year where he has set up a partnership with the Anglican Bishop of Kirinyaga. 90% of the revenue of his charity, the ‘Timothy Wells Charitable Trust’, goes to support the education and development of impoverished students with potential in his diocese. Currently there are about 24 students in secondary and tertiary institutions.

George Chege, a beneficiary of the ‘Timothy Wells Charitable Trust’ writes; “I was able to access quality Certificate and Diploma education after secondary school, which laid a strong academic and personal foundation for my future. Beyond financial support, the programme provided mentorship, guidance, and a strong sense of community that shaped my character, discipline, and aspirations.

As a result of this support, I went on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science and Analytics at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Today, I actively apply these skills in both professional and ministry contexts, including supporting data-driven initiatives within the Diocese. I also remain involved in the especially remarkable is the vision and commitment of Mr Timothy Wells, whose decision to invest in education in East Africa has had a profound and lasting impact. His work continues to transform the lives of young people with great potential, many of whom would not otherwise have had access to further education.”

The programme does more than fund education; it nurtures potential, instils values, and empowers young people to become responsible leaders in their communities.
