Following the death of Robin Masefield (PR 1965-69), George Wong (B3 1966-70) wrote to the Club to share his memories.

I have known Robin since January 1966 when we were both in Upcot junior house, Marlborough College. Upcot housemaster was Eddie Smith. He was fairly laissez-faire but the house rules were medieval, if you were senior to another boy you could ask a house prefect to punish a boy junior to you, if the junior boy had broken a house rule. The commonest punishment was a Two,that is to get fully dressed within two minutes from when the waking up bell rang. This was not an easy feat because we had detachable collars with studs. Robin who was my senior but never gave me a Two.

In a junior house when senior houses did cadet service duties, we had Field Day when we could cycle to any place within cyclable distance to Upcot House. It was the summer term 1966, that Robin, myself, Pearson and Alex So decided to cycle to Lacock Abbey where the first photograph was taken in UK. The return journey was a 40 mile round cycle trip with no maps but brains of 13 year olds and good road signs. All sanctioned by Eddie Smith!!

Along the way we passed Silbury Hill and rode along a side road next to a stream where we all stripped off naked and swam in a stream full of water cress- all very innocent and prickly. Nearly 60 years have passed, all in an instant as I write.
