David Colbourne (B2 1979–84) died on 2nd May 2025 following complications from a heart condition, aged 59.
Dave looked back on his time at Marlborough with real fondness. It was here that his enduring love for music took root, a passion that would accompany him throughout his life. He was a founding member of the band Reality, formed during school days, and remarkably, the band continued to play together well into later life, a living testament to both his musical commitment and the strength of friendships forged at Marlborough.
Dave was a man of gentle spirit and generous heart, known for his warmth, kindness and positive aura that made him beloved among friends, colleagues and family alike. Even in the final year of his life, during which he underwent two major operations, he remained optimistic and positive about the future.
Dave had recently retired from a career in IT, and he was looking forward to having more time to pursue his music and spending more time reconnecting with his old friends. His passing has therefore been deeply felt by all who knew him, not least the many OMs with whom he remained in contact. Dave’s legacy is one of creativity, kindness, and deep, loyal friendship. Many OMs were in attendance at Dave’s funeral, a testament to these long-lasting friendships.
