It was wonderful to see so many Old Marlburians return to the College this term as they joined a series of careers events held by the College’s Futures Department.

In February, we were delighted to have Alex Baring (LI 1991-96), Lord Dominic Johnson (C2 1987-92), Philip Cayford (PR 1965-70) and Edward Tyron (C1 1993-98) return to kick off the ‘Launch Series’ Talks. This event provided an invaluable opportunity for the Lower Sixth to gain a greater understanding of the speakers’ experiences, helping them navigate their own educational and career journeys.

Later in the month, the English Department welcomed Katya Shipster (NC 1994-99), a Publisher at Harper Collins, back to Marlborough for a series of pupil workshops. Katya, who has published award-winning titles like Cher’s Memoir, an instant Sunday Times bestseller, and In Her Own Words, which highlights the creative genius of Amy Winehouse, spent the day with Lower Sixth creative writing pupils. She led a workshop on freedom of speech, followed by a session on how to craft a compelling book pitch, and concluded with an interesting talk on the publishing industry.

Finally, during National Careers Week in early March, the Lower Sixth attended the Old Marlburian Networking Symposium. This event offered pupils the chance to meet OMs from a diverse range of career sectors, gaining a deeper understanding of the professional world they will soon enter. Over 30 OMs returned to share their expertise, offering advice on everything from industry pathways to interview preparation.
