Over the last six weeks, Dylan Cameron (BH 2014-19) has been participating in a Community Development Internship in Nosy Be, Madagascar, with the GVI Foundation. During this time, he has been teaching English and working closely with local schools and youth centres. As part of this experience, he had the opportunity to design and lead his own personal project—something that aligns with his academic research and career aspirations in international development, foreign aid, and NGO work.

Through his International Relations Master’s and dissertation on the inefficiencies of foreign aid, he explored how localised, community-driven development initiatives are often the most effective. This realisation made him focus on education and youth development at the grassroots level, ensuring long-term impact rather than short-term intervention.

With this in mind, he launched a 6-week Sports & Activity Club for local students at Maison des Jeunes, which is curated to benefit Maison des Jeunes, Marodoka School, and Ampasipohy School. The programme will culminate in a Sports Day, bringing the community together in a fun, competitive, and celebratory event.

To make this happen, he has set up a fundraiser to provide essential resources for the schools and community to ensure this project is as impactful and sustainable as possible. The funds raised will go to improved sanitation at the schools, more teaching resources, and desks and chairs for classrooms that currently lack basic furniture.
