100 years of the Memorial Hall

The Memorial Hall is the principal memorial to Marlborough College’s 749 men who gave their lives in the First World War. It was opened by HRH The Duke of Connaught on 23rd May 1925. The hall comprises a semi-circular auditorium of stepped seats and is used for musical events, memorials, plays and more.

Having been in constant use for nearly 100 years had taken its toll, and in 2015, the Development Team launched the Memorial Hall Appeal to raise £5million to restore the much-loved building at Marlborough. The project was completed in 2018, and not only does it truly honour the 749 OMs who fell, but it is also a state-of-the-art performance centre where pupils can showcase their considerable talents.

In 2025, we mark 100 years of the Memorial Hall which the College is celebrating by holding a Centenary Celebration on the 1st and 2nd March. This musical salute will finish with a special Evensong where the Chapel and OM Choir will join forces. You can find more information about the events on the Club and MCCS website.
