Patrick King (B1 1951-55) died on 10th September 2024 at the age of 87. Patrick was the eldest son of the late Revd Charles King, who had been a pupil at Bishop Cotton School in India which has historical links to Marlborough College.
Patrick joined the Beds and Herts Regiment in 1957 and then saw service in Dortmund and Malaya with the East Anglian Regiment. He served with the 2nd Battalion Malaysia Rangers from 1964 – 1966 before joining 4th Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment. Patrick served with the Infantry Junior Leaders Battalion in Oswestry and at the Depot in Bassingbourn before transferring to the 1st Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment in September 1974. Patrick also served as an Army Liaison Officer with the RAF for a number of years, including a period in Bahrain during the Desert Storm campaign. He finally retired from the Army in August 1992.
Following his retirement Patrick was very active in his local community and also served as a member of the General Synod of the Church of England from 1990 – 2000. He was also instrumental in founding a Cadet Unit in Walsingham, Norfolk. Patrick leaves his wife Winifred, four children and grandchildren.
