Alex Russell (C2 2009-14) has triumphed in his rugby career since leaving Marlborough and continues to be a major player in the Canada Sevens Series, having played over 130 international games during his sporting career.

Attending McGill University after Marlborough, Alex continued his passion for rugby and played on the varsity team for four years, representing them as captain in his final year. Following this, Alex went on to play Representative Sevens Rugby in Quebec before moving to Ontario and playing for the Markham Irish, where they won the McCormick Cup in 2018. After playing rugby with Canada’s National Development Academy, the Pacific Pride, from 2019-21, Alex spent time with the Canada Sevens programme and played in the Emirates International Sevens in Dubai 2021. More recently, Alex supported the Canada Men’s Sevens Team in the World Cup Rugby Sevens, and the team went on to finish fourth.

Beyond rugby, Alex is an ambassador for BC Epilepsy and helped raise over $900K as a keynote speaker at one of their fundraising events last year.
