Cricket match in memory of Christian Youens (LI 1986-91)

Christian Youens (LI 1986-91), brother of Arabella Youens (LI 1993-95), died, aged 50, on 13th July, 2023 from motor neuron disease.

As a keen cricketer at Marlborough, and a proud member of the 1st XI Cricket Team, a cricket match was held at the College on Saturday 6th July, in his memory. One team consisted of OMs, the opposition formed of Christian’s family, friends and colleagues and Campbell Gordon (PR 1956-60) did the scoring.

Whilst the weather on the day caused a few interruptions, it was a wonderful occasion to gather Christian’s family and friends together. Following the match, lunch was enjoyed in the Cricket Pavilion, and James ‘Flash’ Gordon (PR 1986-91) brought his barbecue for the occasion.

After the match was called off at the start of the second innings in the wake of torrential rain and hail, the day finished off watching England beat Switzerland at The Marlborough.

Plans are underway for the match to happen next year, with fingers crossed for better weather.
