Charles Napier Collyns (B3 1940-46), died peacefully at home in Putney, 3rd April 2023, aged 95.

He always looked back at his time at Marlborough as one of the most exciting, formative and fulfilling periods of his life. He rose to be Senior Prefect and represented the college on the cricket first XI. He made many enduring friendships and discovered his lifelong love of learning and contrarian thinking

After leaving Marlborough and spending time doing national service, he read history at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and then studied for a Masters degree at Brown University in the United States, where he met his wife Patricia Mary Law. He returned to England in 1956 and worked for Shell International Petroleum Company until 1985, where he worked on the team that developed the influential scenario planning technique for thinking about the future. He then helped to set up a private consultancy, Global Business Network, based in Berkeley, California where he continued to work happily and productively until almost 90 years old.

His father, Percival Charles Collyns (B3 1910-13), elder brother, Lt-Colonel Anthony Collyns (B3 1940-44), and eldest son Charles Valentine Adlai Collyns (PR 1969-73), all attended Marlborough College as well. He is survived by his wife, five sons, thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren
