Julie Brook (LI 1977-79) will stage a major exhibition in Cumbria this May.
For more than three decades she has roamed, lived, and sculpted in a succession of uninhabited and remote landscapes in the British Isles and around the globe. She creates large-scale sculptural pieces in outside settings, using different, natural materials, often using photography alongside the process.
Her exhibition ‘What is it That Will Last?’ opens at Abbot Hall, Kendal, Cumbria, and runs from 20 May 2023 to 30 December. The exhibition is a multimedia experience spanning three decades of Julie’s work in the UK, Japan, and Africa.
A selection of works from Abbot Hall’s collection will also be on display. Selected by Julie, works including those by John Ruskin, Frank Auerbach, JMW Turner, and John Piper will further explore the timeless relationship between artist and landscape.
As well as the exhibition inside the gallery Julie has been commissioned to create a stunning installation outside in the Cumbrian landscape.
