Raymond John Stanley

COL Raymond John Stanley (CR 1969-70) AM, OBE, RFD, ED (Retd) passed away Wednesday, 25 Apr 2021, aged 92, loving husband of Val for 60 years. He was the CO of the Regiment 1965-67 and HONCOL 1983-88. He has been a member of SAMRA (South Australian Mounted Rifles (a Reserve Army [=TA equivalent] Regiment in Australia)) for 27 years.

Ray Stanley was in civilian life on the staff at St Peter’s College Adelaide, an independent Anglican all age boarding and day school for boys which celebrated its 175th Anniversary last year.

Following completion of his command of 3/9 SAMR, he came to MC on a 2 year exchange with Gordon Woods, who went to St Peter’s College. He was not only a great asset to the teaching staff, but to the CCF as well. He kept up with many former Common Room members and OMs over the years.

A true professional in both his career and his Regiment, it is very appropriate that he should have died on ANZAC Day.
