Afghan Refugee Appeal

After witnessing the atrocities in Afghanistan this summer, pupils wanted to take action to help those in need. The Pupil Charity Lead planned fundraising events and activities throughout Michaelmas term and so far, their initiatives have raised nearly £5,000.

The Pupil Charity Lead and the Charity Think Tanks worked with Reverend Novis to raise awareness of the refugee situation in the UK by speaking in assemblies, having guest speakers, and brainstorming fundraising ideas.

Earlier this term, Enver Solomon, Chief Executive of the Refugee Council came to Marlborough to talk to pupils and give accounts of what life is like for refugee families. This exposed the gravity of the refugee situation for pupils and provided information on how we could best support those in need.

This year the charity lead has been raising awareness and widening pupils’ understanding of current affairs such as the events in Afghanistan. This has given pupils a greater involvement and voice in how they would like to raise support for the refugees.

The Pupil Charity Lead has planned fundraising events and activities throughout Michaelmas Term. At the Festival of Sport in October, a sock sale organized by recent OMs and a bake sale organized by the House Dames supported the Afghan Refugee Appeal. The Refugee Council also received a proportion of funds raised from Super Sunday and the School’s Christmas Carol Service.
