Event Review – Covid-19; Lessons Learned So Far

On Monday 9th November, more than 300 OMs gathered on Zoom to hear Hugh Pym (C1 1973-77) & Chris Hopson (B1 1976-81) discuss “Covid-19; Lessons Learned So Far”.

Both the speakers are seen more or less nightly on TV, as their respective roles are so important in the current health crisis and it was fascinating to hear their views on Covid-19 and how the NHS was coping with the present situation.

Many OMs will have read the article in the most recent Club Magazine which featured both Hopson and Pym in a piece entitled ‘Priorities for the Nation’, where Hugh interviewed Chris on his former life at the College and about his current ‘Day Job’.

The evening was introduced and chaired by Simon Lerwill, Foundation Director, who explained that Chris and Hugh had first met on the Memorial Hall stage performing ‘ A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in the late 1970’s.

There was a wide range of interesting questions and opinions from a large OM audience on Zoom and a general agreement that this had been a most stimulating and enlightening evening for everyone. Both Chris and Hugh came across so well and are adept and witty commentators and it was a privileged and pleasure to hear them debating major issues in general and in particular.
