2002 – John O’Groats to Land’s End on a Triplet
In 2002 Alastair Edmonds, Richard Kelly and Alex Wainwright, all C1 1997 – 2002, cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End on a triplet to rase funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, in memory of Hugo McDermott (B1 1998 -2001) who died of a brain tumour in 2001.
Peter Mynors (C3 1954 – 59) lent them the triplet and told us ‘the triplet frame has been dated at about 1908 and was used for a 4000 km expedition to Greece in 1962. Before the 2002 ride it was fitted with new wheels and transmission. Alex, Alastair and Richard completed the ride in 14 days, raising £10,000.
Dr Jonathan Swift, HM of C1 is currently cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity as well as Headcase, and The Rory Morrison WMUK Registry.
