Simon Mordant (B1 1973-77) awarded Italian knighthood

Many congratulations to Simon Mordant (B1 1973-77), pictured above with his wife Catriona, who has been awarded a knighthood in the Order of the Star of Italy by the President of Italy, Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia.

Simon has long championed the work of Australian artists in Italy and led the campaign for the new Australian Pavillion at the Venice Biennale, which was the first 21st Century Building in Venice. He is on the board of the American Academy in Rome and was Australian Commissioner at Venice Biennale in 2013 and 2015.

He is a passionate collector of contemporary art with a long history of benefaction to the arts and has just stepped down as Chairman of the Board of the Museum of Contemporary Arts, Australia.
