The Council is pleased to announce the appointment of G I Henderson CBE to succeed the Rt Hon Lord Malloch-Brown KCMG (C1 1967-71) as Chairman. Giles grew up in South Africa and then studied at Oxford and taught at Berkeley. He had a very distinguished career as a lawyer culminating in eight years as Senior Partner at Slaughter and May in London. Subsequently, he was Master at Pembroke College, Oxford. He began his term in office on 1st August 2019.
Having served nine years on the Marlborough College Council, with the last six years as Chairman, Lord Malloch-Brown completed his term of office at the end of July 2019.
Statement from Lord Malloch-Brown:
“I am sure Giles Henderson is going to bring great leadership and vision to the Council and wise judgement and support to our Master, Louise Moelwyn-Hughes. There is nothing like an Oxford College and a City law firm to hone your diplomatic and chairing skills!”
Statement from the Master, Louise Moelwyn-Hughes:
“I and the College community are delighted to hear that Giles Henderson is to succeed Mark Malloch-Brown as Chairman of Council. Mark has achieved an enormous amount in furthering the academic cause and in promoting the importance of needs-blind access at Marlborough, as well as supporting us all as Chairman, OM and current parent. I am confident that Giles is just the right person to take that vision forward and to support the whole Marlburian community on its current exciting trajectory.”
Statement from Giles Henderson:
“I am delighted to be appointed as the new Chair of the Council at Marlborough College, one of the foremost schools in the country. I look forward enormously to working with the Master, the Council and the whole of the Marlburian community going forward.”
